Leithaberg

Leithaberg – a wine- and cultural landscape, that rests on ancient layers of the Earth

The Leithaberg region is one of the oldest wine growing areas in the world. On the southern side of the Leithaberg mountains to the west of Lake Neusiedl, lies a 30km long wine route along which well-known winemakers and wineries are situated, starting in Jois in the north and reaching as far south as Großhöflein. This part of Burgenland is characterised by vineyards that slope in the direction of Lake Neusiedl, countless almond, cherry and peach trees and a unique soil structure, shaped by limestone and mica-schist.

The Leithaberg region includes Eisenstadt and the surrounding areas including Jois and Winden forming 19 Leithaberg communities: Jois, Winden, Breitenbrunn, Purbach, Donnerskirchen, Schützen am Gebirge, Oslip, Oggau, Mörbisch am See, St. Margarethen, Trausdorf an der Wulka, Eisenstadt, Großhöflein, Wulkaprodersdorf, Müllendorf, Hornstein, Klingenbach, Leithaprodersdorf, Loretto, Neufeld an der Leitha, Siegendorf, Steinbrunn, Stotzing, Wimpassing an der Leitha, Zagersdorf and Zillingtal.
