Taste limestone and slate for yourself
The Leithaberg winemakers believe that „Leithaberg can be tasted“ in their wines. The spiciness, minerality and fruit, the freshness and elegance of indigenous varieties and the authenticity of traditional cultivation methods are of paramount importance to the Leithaberg winemakers.
Leithaberg DAC wines are influenced by 2 unique factors: the Leithaberg mountains in the north-west and Lake Neusiedl in the south-east. The warm winds from Lake Neusiedl help the wines to ripen while cool nights aided by the Leithaberg mountains give the wines fruitiness, freshness, finesse and vitality. The soils in the region consist mainly of limestone and slate. Shell lime, which formed over 15 million years ago, lends the wines a slight salty touch and elegance. The slate on the other hand gives the necessary tenseness and backbone.
The white and the red Leithaberg wines have one important thing in common: they have to possess inner tenseness and liveliness and they should be tightly woven and multilayered. A wine style is being created that is as equally diverse and surprising, delicate and exciting as its unique origin – the Leithaberg region. The wines should be consistent with the Leithaberg style while reflecting individual interpretations and decisions made by the winemakers.
Leithaberg wines are wines of the “reserve” category.
